COSILoveSchools Day was going to take place on Saturday, May 2nd, but due to COVID-19 this event will not take place as originally planned. Rather than cancel COSILoveSchools Day, Churches are finding new and creative ways to show support to local schools!
Months ago, COSILoveYou began organizing an event for Saturday, May 2, called COSILoveSchools Day. Originally, it was designed as a day to connect schools to a nearby church or to bolster the partnerships already existing between churches and schools, by creating volunteer and service opportunities at the school. Rather than cancel the event altogether, we asked the question, “What could we do instead to show support and encouragement for our educators across our city?”
Instead of completing a physical activity on a school campus on COSILoveSchools Day we are encouraging and connecting local partners to do some sort of supportive and appropriate activity for a local school over the coming weeks. Now, more than ever, our local educators need to know they are appreciated and valued!
Some creative ideas to support a local school during COVID-19:
Buy a $10 DoorDash gift card for each of the teachers at your partner school (this has the added benefit of supporting local restaurants!).
With the principal’s permission, have a group of volunteers call each of the teachers to check in on them, see if they need anything, deliver a meal, or just pray with them.
Have a group of staff, volunteers, or families write encouraging notes to each of the teachers, and email them to the principal.
Assign a church member or volunteer to 2-3 teachers, and have them deliver a goodie-bag to their door (with the principal’s permission) that includes a stay-at-home survival kit (extra coffee, chocolates, and a good book).
If nothing else, reach out to your principal to see what ideas he/she has!
